Organize a Food Drive or Fundraiser
The food collected through food drives is the Georgetown Bread Basket’s primary source of high quality, non-perishable foods. Food drives, as well as fundraisers, also help educate the public about the hunger that exists in our community.
A food drive or fundraiser can be as simple or elaborate as you choose. It’s up to you!

How to get started
We often recommend a two-week period to maximize opportunities for participation, but you might also plan your food drive or fundraiser around a specific event date (i.e. a birthday party or sporting event).
If you are planning a public food drive, consider a location at or near a grocery store so that donors can conveniently purchase items to donate. Be sure to check with the store’s management in advance. Food drives and fundraisers are also often held at churches, in schools, or in workplaces.
By registering your event with us, we can help support you so that your food drive or fundraiser is as successful as possible. We can provide you with reusable bags to collect items, provide you with signage, and also schedule a drop-off time for your collected items. Register your event here.
If you would like to know how many pounds of food you donated, please let us know before your donation is dropped off as we do not routinely measure donations. Any monetary donations greater than $10.00 will qualify for a tax receipt. The receipt will be made out in the name of the person making the donation (and not the person who collected it). If you provide us with the donor’s name, address, phone number, and donation amount, a receipt will be sent to them directly.
